This time, I would like to introduce the whiskey I purchased in April 2025, as I do every month.

1st bottle: Shinanoya Chairman's Reserve 2009 14 Year Double Retort Pot Still

Suddenly, it's not whiskey but rum.

I sampled it at Shinanoya's tasting event held in March.

I bought it because it had a distinct rum-like glue smell and tropical flavor, but also had a slight smoky nuance, tea leaves, and milkiness, and was delicious.

This is also rum, not whisky.

I also bought this after tasting it at the Shinanoya tasting event.

This one also has a tropical feel, but I think this one has more of a brown sugar flavor.

Well, there is a famous bar in Kyoto called ``Rum and WhiskyThis is a book aimed at people like you, so you can be assured that you won't be disappointed.

The price is also very good at around 12,000 yen.

These two rums are from the same St. Lucia Distillery, but they have different tastes due to different manufacturing methods.

I think it would be interesting to compare the drinks, so if you see both at a bar, give them a try.

3rd bottle: Zanzibar Very Old Selection Speyside Blended Malt

I also bought this after tasting it at Shinanoya's tasting event.

It is a blended malt whisky, and has a luxurious composition of Tamdhu and Glenrothes' 60's and 70's unblended whiskey, and a blend of younger Grand Farclas.

However, the price is about 15,000 yen, which seems cheap after hearing about this configuration.

The taste is full of old-fashioned raw fruits, especially berries and cherries, brown sugar, and antique leather furniture.

This will appeal to those who like old-school music, so if you see it at a bar, give it a try.

There was a participation fee of 3,000 yen for the tasting event at Shinanoya, but can I drink it for free? You can also enjoy the lineup and paid tastings at low prices.

Of course, since it's a tasting event, there are many brands that you can try and order on the spot if you like them.

4th bottle: Niigata Kameda Distillery Owner's Cask Awaya Liquor Store

I am from Niigata and my hometown is close to Kameda, so I recommend the Niigata Kameda Distillery.

When the distillery first started, we were looking for an owner's cask, and this time we received one from Awaya Liquor Store in Omiya, Saitama Prefecture.

The price is approximately 10,000 yen, which is extremely cheap for a Japanese single cask.

As for the taste, it has the honey in the official version, but I think it also has a creamy and orange flavor.

I don't know if you can buy it yet, but if you see it at a bar, give it a try.

5th bottle: Niigata Kameda Distillery Owner's Cask Hankyu Department Store

Next is the owner's cask from Niigata Kameda Distillery, and the bottle is owned by Hankyu Department Store.

The price was a little higher at 18,700 yen, perhaps due to the fact that the number of bottlings was 74 bottles, which was a little less than the previous owner's cask price of around 10,000 yen.

I haven't been able to open the bottle yet, but I plan to open it and drink it soon.

6th bottle: Niigata Kameda Distillery Isetan Niigata Koshihin

This is also one from Niigata Kameda Distillery.

It is unclear whether it will be treated as an owner's cask, but it is part of a series called Niigata Etsuhin, which introduces Isetan's Niigata masterpieces.

I haven't been able to open the bottle yet, but I plan to open it and drink it soon.

We will be collecting owner's casks from Niigata Kameda, so if you see any owner's casks for sale, please let us know via DM on X or in the comments section on YouTube.

I think many of the specs will be similar to those released in bourbon barrels after being aged for 3 years, but I think there are many delicious owner's cask releases and you can feel the difference from the official ones, so if there is a release around 10,000 yen, I think it's worth trying your hand at.

7th: Tsunuki 2025Edition

This is Tsunuki 2025 Edition.

I bought the 2022 and 2023, but not the 2024, but I am drinking it at a whiskey event.

I had the 2025 Edition at Whiskey Lovers Nagoya 2025, and my impression is that it's getting better every year.

I think the banana-like nuance that I often felt with the single cask Tsunuki came out in the official bottle as well.

Even if you don't go as far as purchasing a full bottle, try drinking it at a whiskey event or at a liquor store or bar where you can sample it.

8th: Tsunuki Hyakuze Fuma 2020-2025

I attended Rudder's Tsunuki seminar in April and was able to get Tsunuki's Hyakusei Fuma.

『Chichibu Whiskey Festival 2025Like Tsunuki, it uses liquid yeast, and although it is short-ripening, it has a very fruity taste.

This one from Chichibu is also worth drinking because it shows you how important the fermentation process and yeast are, so if you see it at a bar, give it a try.

The lottery period has already ended, but Tsunuki from "Whiskey Talk Fukuoka 2025" also uses liquid yeast, so be sure to check out liquid yeast in the future.

9th bottle: Yamarest Ramunejin

This is gin, not whisky.

Held in April, “Whiskey & Spirits Festival 20205 in YokohamaThis is the one I bought at.

It says ramune gin, but it really tastes like ramune gin.

I've tried various ways to drink it, but I think it's best to drink it straight or tonic, which is a little less sonic.

If I had to choose, I would recommend Sonic since it's summer.

Full bottles will go on sale in June 2025, so if you're interested, try them out at bars, liquor stores where you can sample them, and whiskey events, and if you like them, buy a full bottle.

10th: Asaya Shoten x Bar Bacchus Royal Black 2015 9 1st Phil Palo Cortado Octave

This is also “Whiskey & Spirits Festival 20205 in YokohamaThis is the one I bought at.

These are bottles from Asaya Shoten, a famous liquor store in Chichibu, and bar bucchus in Kyoto.

Although it has been aged for 9 years and is short-ripened, it has a distinct taste of raisins, without any of the unpleasant aspects of short-ripening or sherry, and is truly delicious.

If you see it at a bar, give it a try.

11th bottle: Niigata Kameda Constituent Unblended Bourbon

This is also “Whiskey & Spirits Festival 20205 in YokohamaThis is the one I bought at.

I almost went to a festival just to buy this.

Niigata Kameda's single malt, first release constituent unblended sake.

This is a bourbon barrel.

12th bottle: Niigata Kameda Constituent Unblended Palo Cortado

This is also “Whiskey & Spirits Festival 20205 in YokohamaThis is the one I bought at.

It is also a constituent unblended sake from Kameda, Niigata, and is a type of palo cortado and sherry.

I hope you understand that Palo Cortado is a slightly rare sherry barrel.

13th bottle: Niigata Kameda constituent unblended sherry brandy

It is also a sherry brandy made from Kameda, Niigata.

Sherry barrels, which are currently used to age many whiskeys, are made using a process called seasoning.

We put something similar to sherry into the barrel and season the barrel with sherry.

This sherry-like liquor is used multiple times by being seasoned once and then put into another barrel, but the taste of the barrel and woodiness becomes stronger and stronger than the sherry flavor.

The result is something that isn't very tasty, so we distill it after a certain number of uses.

That is sherry brandy.

The first release is a blend of bourbon, palo cortado, sherry brandy, and wine casks.

It seems that wine casks alone are not delicious, so they will not commercialize them, but if you try blending just these three bottles, you can create a taste similar to the first release, so I think it would be fun to mix it up at home.

Some of these items may have been sold out at limited editions such as festivals and seminars, so please take a look at the booths.

14th: Tsunuki 2018-2023 Y’s Cask

This is also “Whiskey & Spirits Festival 20205 in YokohamaThis is the one I bought at.

I bought it after tasting it, and I thought it was interesting because of the bluish fruit and peat, which doesn't really taste like Tsunuki, so I decided to buy it.

Tsunuki called Heavily Peated is also rare.

Closing Thoughts

In April 2025, there will be a total of 14 trains, of which 6, about half of which will be in Niigata Kameda.

I've given up on not being able to do everything, but I would like to collect Niigata Kameda's releases as much as possible.

Other than that, I was able to buy things that I had tasted and thought were delicious at tasting events, seminars, and festivals, so I think it was a good purchase, even though it was expensive.

Especially when there is a festival, if you are told that something is limited to the event or that you can buy something delicious to drink on the spot, you have no choice but to buy it, so it ends up costing you money. .
