[Nevis!! Laphroaig!!] Delicious Whiskies from July 2025

This time, I will introduce some delicious whiskey that I bought in July 2025 or drank at a bar.

1st bottle: Boutique Whiskey Jura Batch 3 20 years for SHINANOYA

This is Jura for Shinanoya.

This is a bottle that was distilled in 1998 and aged for 20 years.

It's a nice Jura with a hint of lactic acid, but also a tropical element.

I don't have much experience with Jura, but this was one that I thought was delicious and had a Jura-like feel to it.

2nd bottle: WHISKY JURY Ben Nevis 1996-2023 27 years

Apricot and fruit, with a slightly reductive wildness.

I can't say it's a peach, but it's close, and I get the impression that the old tropical flavor becomes stronger in the second half.

Although it's more fruity, it still has a bit of barrel and spiciness, so it was interesting that it wasn't typical of 96 Nevis.

This year has seen many releases of Ben Nevis distilled in 1996, which is known as a successful year. .

The price is around 60,000 to 70,000 yen per bottle, so if you drink it at a bar, the average price for a 15ml half shot is about 20 divided by the bottle price, so it will cost around 3,000 to 4,000 yen.

It can be quite difficult to chase. . (crying)

3rd bottle: Dornoch 5 years

This is Dornoch sold by Whiskey Mew.

For a 5 year old, it has a fruity, dense and ripe feel, with hints of passion fruit on the finish.

This is due to the length of fermentation time, which is generally 72 hours (3 days), but Dornoch's fermentation time is a whopping 200 hours.

It's interesting to hear that some people don't think of it as whisky, and some people think of it as a separate modern whisky.

Personally, I think of it as normal whisky.

4th bottle: Tomartin 1994 30 years Sealgair Nam Barrlaich

The first thing you notice is the tropical flavor, but it also has a light impression, with a hint of melon and sourness.

I quite like this kind of rustic whisky.

Each bottle costs about 65,000 yen, but I'd buy it if I had the money.

5th bottle: Islay Single Malt 1993-2024 30 years for Bar Golden Promise AQUA VITAE×KIMURA×SHINANOYA

Although it is listed as Islay Single Malt, it is actually Laphroaig.

It has a tropical feel with lots of fruit.

Still, it has a slightly peat and nutty feel.

One bottle costs about 110,000 yen, but it was so delicious that I wish I had bought it.

6th bottle: WHISKY JURY Islay Single Malt 1993-2023 30 years

This is also listed as Islay single malt, but the content is Laphroaig.

It has citrus, grapefruit-like fruits and citrus, and a strong peat.

It also has a rich sweetness and a bit of bitterness, like coffee or fruit pulp.

The fruit and peat alone are delicious, but I think this is a nice bottle that allows you to feel the complex flavors.

There are many releases of 96 Nevis this year, but there are also many releases of 91 and 93 rough. .

A bottle of 91 or 93 Rough costs over 100,000 yen, so if you drink it at a bar, it would cost more than 5,000 yen.

It's hard to keep track of, but I think I'd like to buy one now. .

Impressions

I think July 2025 will see a continuation of large-scale releases in the 30-year aging class priced at 50,000 yen or more per bottle.

It's expensive, but it's delicious when you try it.

Up until now, I have been looking for delicious bottles of short-ripened and Japanese wines, but recently I have been switching to long-ripened wines.

If you try to buy a short-ripened or Japanese one, it will cost about 20,000 yen, so wouldn't it be better to put up with three bottles and buy one long-ripened one in the 50,000 to 60,000 yen range? That's what I think these days.

However, I don't want to take it off even if it's 20,000 yen per bottle, but I don't want to take it off even more if it costs more than 50,000 yen, so even if I pay more than 3,000 yen for a drink, I try drinking it at a bar first.

It's tough on my wallet to keep releasing big releases at this pace, but I'll try to keep up with them.
