Let's take a look at the factors that made it possible to complete this race.

Factors for finishing the race

I think there are three main reasons why I was able to finish the race.

  • weather
  • Understanding the course
  • Make a hotel a single room

Factor 1: Weather

Last year's weather was strong with wind speeds of 7m/h, but this year's weather was quite calm with wind speeds of 1-2m/h throughout the day.

Although there was no tailwind assist, there was no headwind resistance, so I was able to ride quite comfortably.

Honestly, there is a possibility that I would not have been able to complete the race if the weather had been bad. . (I wanted it without much practice.)

We cannot control the weather, so we can only pray to God for good or bad weather. .

I don't usually run on days with strong winds, but I will try to run once in a while to prepare for the headwind and to build up my body and mental health regardless of the weather.

Factor 2: Understanding the course

Based on my experience last year when I mistook the distance between aids and the time limit and got a DNF,In addition to the distance and time limit between each aid, I also set a reasonable target time and wrote it down.

When taking a break at an aid station, I would refer back to this memo to check the distance and time limit.

I also think that the fact that I prioritized finishing the race was a contributing factor, such as skipping the crowded Aikawa AS and not eating ice cream at Onogame.

Factor 3: Stay in a single room at a hotel

Last year was ``HachimankanWe stayed in a shared room.

It was nice to be able to interact with the people I shared a room with, but the problem was sleeping.

I had trouble falling asleep because of the snoring, and because of the difference in start times I had to wake up early, so I ended up running in a sleep-deprived state.

With that in mind, this year'sTabino Hotel Sado' ofI booked a single room.

It doesn't interfere with my sleep, I can go to bed whenever I want, wake up whenever I want, and I can do what I want without being sleep deprived.

Also, last year we had two meals in the evening and breakfast, but this time we stayed without meals.

It's a hassle to have to prepare breakfast and dinner yourself because you're staying without meals, but I think it's good in the sense that you can eat whatever you like.

The meals at ryokan are luxurious and delicious, but they are not suitable for those who want to mainly focus on carbohydrates in order to increase their carbs.

Raw foods are not allowed in carb-up, but just in case...Sado Kaiten Sushi Benkei Sado main store” and “Sushiya Maruishi main storeI was able to eat sushi and at least enjoy Sado's seafood.

Correction points

I was able to complete the race, but I think there are two points that need to be corrected.

  • weight
  • Prioritize completion → Enjoy

weight

This time I wanted my weight to be around 72kg. (Last time it was around 75kg.)

The slopes of Z-slope and Onogame-no-Slope were relatively easy to climb, but although I didn't lose my footing on the way, the slopes with a maximum altitude of 170m were quite tough. .

I'm glad I was able to finish the race,To run more comfortably and with more time, I weighed around 70kg. . No, if I were to be greedy, I'd like to be in the late 60kg range.

Finishing the race is a top priority → enjoy it

This time I prioritized finishing the race, so I skipped the first Aikawa AS and didn't eat ice cream at Onogame.

Also, as expected, I took some photos on the Z slope, but other than that I didn't stop during the ride to take photos.

Thanks to that, I was able to complete the race safely.Next time I would like to run with the aim of enjoying Sado.

If I stop mid-way, I won't have much free time, so I'll try to complete that portion before heading out.

Also, if you carb-up or don't drink alcohol the day before, you won't be able to say that you enjoyed Sado in terms of food.

I went home right after the event ended, but since I'll be staying one more night, I won't have any restrictions on food or alcohol, so I wonder if I'll be able to enjoy Sado's seafood and local sake.

From now on

I participated in "Sado long ride” and “Tour de TohokuNow that I have completed 210km, what should I do from now on? .

  • Physical fitness check → next goal
  • rut

Physical fitness check → next goal

『Sado long ride” and “Tour de TohokuThe biggest reason I'm participating in this is to check my physical fitness.

Since I usually work remotely, I feel that my physical strength has clearly decreased compared to when I was working before the coronavirus.

Therefore, I ride a road bike to increase my physical strength, and as an indicator of my ability to maintain my physical fitness, I aim to complete 210km on my road bike every year.

Last year, I completed 210km in the Tour de Tohoku, and this time I completed 210km on the Sado Long Ride, and I was able to finish each time with about an hour and a half left from the finish line.

I think you can say that you have a lot of leeway, so if that happens, you'll want to find your next goal.

Rather than trying to reach the goal faster, I would like to try a longer distance.

When it comes to long ride events, I don't think there are any that have better access from Tokyo and are longer than Sado Long Ride or Tour de Tohoku. (Maybe I just can't find it...)

So, is it Brevet?

I'm thinking of starting around 200km through the Kanto Plain, which isn't mountainous, and aiming for 300km to 400km after 200km of mountainous terrain.

I'm also interested in running a full marathon, not just a road bike.

rut

『Sado long ride” and “Tour de Tohoku”, but also “whiskey event” I also felt like I was stuck in a rut.

[Evolved from last year!!] Whiskey Harbor Kobe 2024 participation record

I visit various parts of Japan, including Sado and Ishinomaki, to participate in long ride events and whiskey events.

『Sado long ride” will not be held in Hokkaido next year, but it goes without saying that the event is held in the same location every time.

This may be an extreme idea, but if you go to Sado, the general idea of eating seafood and riding your bike home remains the same. .

If you do this every year, it will remain in your memory.

I try to change where I stay, what I eat, and where I eat, but I can't deny that I'm stuck in a rut. .

What's going on here? .

Next event to attend

The next event I will participate in will be held in September.Tour de Tohoku 2024”.

We have successfully secured a hotel and applied to participate in the Kesennuma Otani Kaigan Fondo (180km).

As a change from last year, the longest course has been changed from 210km to 180km.

In the case of 210km up until last year, I went from Otani Kaigan AS to the downtown area of Kesennuma, passing through the fishing port to Namiue/Noritsukan AS.

The scenery around the fishing port is nice and it's a pleasant ride, and at the Namijo and Fossil Museum AS you can actually see the damage caused by the tsunami, so you can get a feel for the enormity of the damage and the progress of reconstruction.

However, it was difficult to drive in the city of Kesennuma because there were so many cars passing by, and I was often caught at traffic lights, so to be honest, I didn't feel comfortable driving.

If this section were omitted, the distance would be shorter, but I personally thought it was a good idea and decided to participate this time as well.

Event management and other aspects will also change, so I guess I'm half excited and half nervous about what kind of event it will be. .

『Tour de TohokuI may participate in a brevet or something before that, but for now I'm going to try not to gain too much weight and do some road biking and running from time to time.
