1st: Nikka Frontier
I bought this because it's a new Nikka standard product that was released on October 1, 2024, and as a whiskey lover I couldn't help but try it.
If I were to give my honest opinion, I would say it's a degraded version of From the Barrel.
Personally, I tried drinking it straight, on the rocks, in a highball, with water, and with hot water, but no matter how I drank it, I personally didn't like it. .
If you're going to buy this, it has the disadvantage that it's hard to buy, but From the Barrel is the way to go.
Also, I felt that the cheaper Deep Blend was more distinctive and I generally preferred it.
Although it has the characteristic of being non-chill filtered, it was one that personally did not impress me.
2nd bottle: Niigata Kameda Distillery Lion Edition 2
I'm from Niigata and it's close to my hometown, so I decided to purchase a new product from my favorite distillery, Niigata Kameda Distillery.
Lion Edition 2 is the second version of the previously released Lion Edition.
It is not a single malt, but is still considered a new born.
I haven't opened the bottle yet, but I plan on drinking it someday.
3rd bottle: Secret Islay 2018 Whiskey Talk Fukuoka 2024 event limited bottle
Held in June 2024, “Whiskey Talk Fukuoka 2024” This is an event limited bottle.
There was a lottery and I was able to win and purchase it.
It's a secret Islay, but the contents are Ardbeg.
Distilled in 2018, bottled in 2024, aged for 5 years, the alcohol content is 54.9%.
I think it will be compared to the official Weebe Tea when it is aged for about 5 years, but I think the peat and iodine content is quite stable.
It gives the impression of a clean Ardbeg with a salty, milky taste.
Those who like Islay's spicy Ardbeg may find it unsatisfying, but personally I think it's delicious.
I don't think there are many stores that carry it, but if you see it, please give it a try.
4th bottle: Shinanoya Craigellachie 2006 16 year refill sherry butt
This is a bottle that was distilled in 2006 and aged for 16 years in a refill sherry butt.
I think it's one that has a Japanese element of red bean paste or tea, but also has a strong barley flavor.
Although it feels like autumn is over in the blink of an eye, I think this is the perfect bottle to drink straight during the long autumn nights.
I tried it at the store and it was delicious, so I decided to buy it on the spot.
5th: Shinanoya Ram J.M 2015 7 years
It's not whiskey, it's rum.
A 7 year old single cask strength rum distilled in 2015.
I think it has some fruity, tea-like elements, but also some tropical elements.
I sampled it at the store and it was delicious, so I decided to buy it on the spot.
Personally, I've been really into rum and gin lately.
Surprisingly, rum has a similar flavor to whiskey, and the fruity and tropical elements you're looking for in whisky. Rum is easy to get, and it's also cheap, so we recommend trying a little rum as well.
Closing Thoughts
I mainly buy releases that are short to medium-ripe, so I think it's about time I buy long-ripe releases that are over 20 years old.
From now until the end of the year, I think there will be more good releases from Japanese whiskey and bottlers, so I'm scared that the purchase price will increase.
I plan to drink it at a bar or liquor store and if it tastes good, I will buy it, so please look forward to the introduction of the whiskey I purchased in November 2024.
