Night bus - Ujiyamada Station - Ise City Station

Today is Friday, January 24, 2025.

I come to visit Ise once every few years, but this time,Whiskey Lovers Nagoya 2025I came to Ise in time to participate in the event.

My last visit was in July 2020, so this is my first visit in about four and a half years.

This time, in order to visit the shrine as early as possible, I took a night bus from Tokyo Station and arrived at Ujiyamada Station around 8:10.

The state of the night bus is ``here』。

[Day 0 of 4] Ise and Nagoya: A Shrine and Whisky Trip [Visited January 2025]

I was able to get some sleep on the night bus, so I don't think I'll have any problems physically visiting the shrine.

First, walk from Ujiyamada Station to Iseshi Station.

In less than 10 minutes on foot, you will arrive at Iseshi Station.

After arriving, leave your luggage in a locker.

There were quite a few lockers that accepted Suica, so I was able to leave my luggage there on a weekday without any problems.

I think you should be careful on Saturdays and Sundays, around 10:00 a.m., but there are several baggage storage facilities in addition to lockers, so I think you'll be fine.

Ise Grand Shrine Geku

First, we will aim for the Geku of Ise Grand Shrine.

Ise Jingu has an Outer Shrine and an Inner Shrine, and it has been a long-standing custom to visit the Outer Shrine first.

If you go straight from Iseshi Station, you can arrive in less than 10 minutes on foot.

It was around 8:30, so most of the souvenir shops and restaurants along the way were closed, but if it was after 10 o'clock, I think they would have opened and become a little more lively.

Chozuya

After arriving, purify yourself at the chozuya.

After that, pass through the torii gate and continue walking.

main shrine

After walking for a while while admiring the trees, we arrived at the main shrine and paid a visit.

Photography of the main shrine is allowed up to just before this torii gate, but is prohibited after that.

Shikinen Sengu Imperial grounds

There is a site of the same size next to the main shrine.

Once every 20 years, a festival called Shikinen Sengu is held at Ise Grand Shrine, where a new shrine is built on the land next to it and the shrine is moved to a new one.

The previous Shikinen Sengu took place in the fall of 2013, so the next one is scheduled to take place in the fall of 2033.

Asora no Chaya

After visiting the shrine, there is a ``Asora no ChayaWe will have breakfast at ``.

Only in the morning, ``Morning porridge for a mealYou can enjoy a bowl of rice porridge.

This time, “Morning porridge abalone (2,500 yen)” I ordered.

Although you need to be prepared for a certain amount of waiting time, the breakfast was well worth it with a wide variety of options.

By the way, you can choose the type of abalone or sea bream, but it doesn't turn into abalone porridge, it just comes as an extra to the basic porridge set, so it's a bit of a hassle to decide whether to add it or not. .

Ise Grand Shrine Geku - Inner Shrine

Now that we have finished visiting the Geku, we will move on to the Inner Shrine.

Geku and Naiku are approximately 4km apart, so you will basically need to go there by bus or taxi.

There are 3 to 4 buses per hour on weekdays and 5 to 7 buses per hour on weekends and holidays, so unless you have a lot of time, I think it's better to take the bus.

The bus takes about 20 minutes and costs 520 yen.

You can get there in about 15 minutes by riding the limited express train, which runs once an hour on weekdays and twice an hour on weekends.

This time, we will use the express train to go to Naiku.

By the way, if you use a taxi, it will cost 2,000 yen + extra and it will take about 10 to 15 minutes.

Ise Grand Shrine Naiku

After getting off the bus and walking a little further, the Otorii gate will appear.

Normally, it is best to drive on the left side at shrines, but at Ise Grand Shrine, you drive on the right side.

Pass through the large torii gate, cross Uji Bridge, and proceed along the long approach.

Along the way, you will see sake donated by sake breweries in Mie.

Chozuya

Purify yourself at the chozuya.

Isuzu River

You can descend from the approach to the surface of the Isuzu River.

As you can see, the water is quite clear.

Further cleanse your hands with water from the Isuzu River.

main shrine

We continued walking until we arrived at the main shrine and paid a visit.

I think it took about 10 minutes to walk from the first Otorii gate.

The main shrine is located at the top of the stairs, and it is possible to take photos up to the bottom of these stairs.

It was already 10:30, so the number of people was gradually increasing.

Sushihisa

After visiting the shrine, walk along Ise Kaido Road, which is lined with souvenir shops and restaurants.

In order to eat Ise's specialty, tekone sushi, we went to the famous restaurant ``Sushihisa” I visited.

Although it is a famous restaurant, there are quite a few seats, so I was able to enter without waiting.

After visiting the shrine, we had some alcohol and enjoyed the famous ``Hand-kneaded sushi (bamboo) 2,200 yen” I received it.

The pickled bonito was delicious with no odor and a chewy texture.

Okage Yokocho

After dinner, this is also one of the famous places in Ise.Okage Yokocho” and eat while walking.

We ate Ise udon, two glasses of sake, croquettes, and minced meat cutlet, and after the meal, we had Akafuku and tea at Akafuku main store.

I had eaten rice porridge and tekone sushi the other day, so I think I ate and drank a lot.

Sarutahiko Shrine

As I was full, I decided to stop eating and go back to worship.

In addition to the Geku and Naiku, Ise Grand Shrine has separate shrines scattered throughout Ise City, and there are other famous shrines as well.

So, first, I walked from Okage Yokocho for less than 10 minutes and arrived at Sarutahiko Shrine.

Although it was undergoing renovation work, I was able to visit it along with Sarume Shrine.

Tsukiyomiya

After visiting the shrine, I walked another 20 minutes to visit Tsukiyomi Shrine, which is a separate shrine to the Naiku.

There are 4 companies within the precincts.

Tsukiyomiya

Tsukiyomi Aramitama Shrine

Isanagi Shrine

Isanaya Shrine

We will worship in this order.

The order of worship is written on the signboard, so if you follow the order, there will be no problem.

The precincts are surrounded by trees and are not as large as the Geku and Naiku, but there are fewer people and you can enjoy the solemn atmosphere, so it is a highly recommended place, but the drawback is that you will have to walk quite a bit.

If you are visiting by car, there is no problem as there is a free parking lot.

If you are visiting by public transportation, there are only a few buses per hour, but you can also get there from Naiku by bus, so please consider visiting when you are in Ise.

Tsukiyomi Shrine

After visiting the shrine, walk for about 10 minutes from Tsukiyomigu Shrine to Isuzugawa Station.

I took the train two stops and returned to Ise City Station.

There are more than 6 trains per hour from Isuzugawa Station to Ise City Station, so transportation is convenient.

I walked for less than 10 minutes from Ise-shi Station and visited Tsukiyomi-gu Shrine, which is a separate shrine to the Geku.

This allowed me to visit all the shrines I wanted to visit.

Popular bar Daibanya

I will then move to Nagoya where I will be staying today, but I have a little time before my scheduled train time, soPopular bar Daibanya” I had a drink.

『Matsusaka beef tataki (539 yen)” was especially exquisite.

It's an izakaya for local customers where you can drink from noon, and the food is delicious and the prices are low, so it's a perfect place to spend 30 minutes to an hour.

Impressions

I was able to successfully complete my visit to Ise, which I do once every few years.

When visiting Ise, I almost always visit the shrines in this order: Geku → Naiku → Sarutahiko Shrine → Tsukiyomi Shrine → Tsukiyomi Shrine.

There are other Betsugu shrines, but I think this is the limit considering that you will be traveling to Nagoya on the same day by walking and using public transportation.

I'd like to visit all of them at least once, including the Bekku, but I'll need a car and lodging, so I'm not sure when I'll be able to do it. .

I was able to enjoy it not only as a pilgrimage to Ise, but also as a meal.

Since this is the first time I'd like to introduce you to one, I've introduced some of the major ones first, but as I walked around the city, I found a lot of interesting shops, so I'd like to introduce them to you next time I visit Ise.
